Rainy Day Wedding Palm Springs

Wedding Day Rain At Avalon Hotel

For some brides, the worse thing imaginable is rain on the wedding day. Unexpected rain in the forecast can certainly create some challenges, but staying positive about the situation is the first step to making sure a little (or a lot) of water does not interfere with wedding day festivities! The second step is making sure that a quick-thinking and talented team of wedding vendors is ready to accept the challenge, especially the wedding planner! That is what happened when Whitney and Nic’s Palm Springs wedding at the Avalon Hotel forecast changed from sunny to wet & wild! Thankfully, this bride and groom had that excellent team of vendors led by Michelle Garibay Events who were able to quickly adjust from a planned outdoor wedding ceremony to a wedding ceremony under a tent. Most importantly, planning the ceremony under a tent that was both stylish and elegant because of that rain. Whitney and Nic also took the whole change in wedding plans in stride and the result was a amazing wedding in the desert…that was only a tad wet and cold!  Below are some of the rainy day wedding photos captured at Avalon Hotel by Ashley LaPrade Photography! Since Ashley was captured this rainy day wedding she is probably the best equipped to tell you more about the day and the couple so we will let her tell you more about Whitney and Nic’s Palm Springs wedding!

Palm Springs Weddings

Palm Springs attracts a certain type of wedding couple. A couple that isn’t afraid of color, style, or having a modern edge. All while still emphasizing the importance of having a casual, candid, and relaxed environment. That is exactly the energy the Avalon Hotel offered on Nic and Whitney’s wedding day. In fact, my favorite thing about the Avalon Hotel is that it provides a modern space with a luxury feel and low-key vibe. The Avalon just screams “patio life” and enjoying what Palm Springs has to offer. Great food, downtown night-life, and a relaxed casual vibe. I am based out of Palm Springs and have done many weddings at the Avalon hotel in Palm Springs and continue still love shooting at the Palm Springs wedding venue.

What Was The Inspiration For The Wedding?

All the credit goes to Whitney and Nic (Bride and Groom) along with Michelle Garibay Events (Palm Springs Wedding Planner). They both incorporated elements of glam modern while still being true to their personality. However, the unexpected change in the weather forecast did make things more interesting! Whitney and Nic did not let their wedding day plans change one bit with having the rain. If anything they embraced it and made the best out of it. The only small adjustment that had to be made was moving the wedding ceremony under a tent to keep the guests dry. On the positive side, the rainy day allowed for more unique places to photograph on the hotel property. Not the normal iconic spots that most would expect. This allowed my creative side to really get charged for the day to challenge myself to create amazing photographs for my couple as if it wasn’t a rainy day. A couple of tips for photographing in the rain: have some grip tape handy to tape to the bottom of shoes, so you don’t slip! This was not the first time I shot a wedding in the rain, but in this case it was rare because it was legit downpour all day. That was strange in general but even more so since it pretty much never rains in Palm Springs.

The Palm Springs Bride & Groom

Whitney and Nic discovered me through word of mouth. They met in Las Vegas while walking their dogs, and have a special personality that really shines through in their everyday life to the style in which they had on their wedding day. Sophisticated, down-to-earth, but not afraid to have a good time and show it! That was why my favorite moment from the Palm Springs wedding was the grand entrance they had into the reception. They both took dance lessons together to choreograph their first dance, it was amazing! I am so glad Miguel Garcia Studios captured it on video:
